PostSubject: Help with Wired Connection   Wed May 01, 2013 4:56 pm

So the apartment I will be getting this summer may not have wired connection. An issue for the PS2 (I don't have a backward compatible PS3 anymore). Anyone know how to hook up to your computer so I have a wired connection?

This should help if you have a Windows Computer but I'm not sure if it'll work for you, I've tried it but it didn't work for me. I know someone who did get it to work though so you might get lucky.

I already did this and it worked fine.
Just be sure you use a Crossover cable instead of an usual Ethernet cable or it won't work.
Tell me if you have any problems Wink

Crossover cable? What's the difference between that and an Ethernet Cable?

You do not need a crossover cable if your computer has an Ethernet port and wireless adapter. What you first need to do is bridge the connection between your Ethernet port and wireless adapter, so your computer thinks your Ethernet cord is a crossover one. That would be step one. Idea

Once you figure that out you need to configure your PS2 internet settings (which is more difficult).

So it sounds like the PS2 configuration is the difficult part then? I'm going to mess around with it next week on the laptop, but I won't know until later whether it actually works.

These are the ends of a crossover cable. The difference is, that an usual ethernet cable has the same order of colours, while the crossover order is different.
Just bridge the connections as explained in the video and connect your PS2 with your computer. You don't have to change your PS2-settings, just take the usual Ethernet settings.

When I do this - my laptop loses internet capabilities, but it does say the bridge is on (I do not currently have a ethernet or crossover cord to test it). This is normal because my laptop is a "bridge" now, correct?

You do have connectivity, it just shows that you don't have the Ethernet plugged in.

Is the wireless network connection enabled?

If you don't have internet, try this:
When you bridged your connections you eeded to mark both connections and click "bridge" after clicking one of them. Delete the bridge and try to bridge them by clicking the other connection. I think that's what I did.

Doesn't matter which one I right click to "bridge" - I lose internet on my laptop when I do it.

Do you have 3 connections? When I bridged them there were 2 LAN-Connections, maybe you took the wrong.

I have two wireless ones, but I cannot bridge with one of the wireless ones. Maybe it'll work when I actually put a crossover/ethernet cord in. I was doing it without one so far.

I us my laptop for my ps2 and it's works when it doesn't have an Ethernet cord. Take a screen shot of all you trying to make a bridge.

Hmm everything seems to be correct, maybe you should create the bridge and wait thirty minutes or you may have to configure your router.

If you do have a wired connection without a router

get this

http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-GS605NA-Giga-Switch-5Port/dp/B0002A9U7M/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1367516429&sr=1-6&keywords=netgear+switch

If you only have a wireless connection

get this

http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Wireless-Gaming-Adapter-TEW-647GA/dp/B0024G48VA/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1367516652&sr=1-4&keywords=ps2+wireless+adapter+router

If you dont want to spend any money well then go fuck yourself

-_- Suspect No Evil or Very Mad all he needs is an Ethernet cord, router, and a computer (or laptop) that has wireless and wired internet. He doesn't need to spent large amounts of money to do this.
